Tweens Dominate Graphic Novel Contest
Share

The winners of Tye Preston Memorial Library’s Graphic Novel Contest for kids were announced this week, and there was a surprise — more tweens participated than teens.
That’s okay because overall attendance by teens is increasing anyway at the facility, whose credo is “Where Books Are Only the Beginning.”
Public Services Librarian Jamie Poer said librarians try to find activities kids enjoy — and she’s a big fan of graphic novels, too.
…and the winners are:
Children’s 1st Place
Collin Kirkpatrick, Age 8
Title: Jack’s Monster
Tween 1st Place
Riley Matthews, Age 10
Title: Slimed, a Snail Story
Tween 2nd Place
Ellie Smith, Age 12
Title: The Experiment
Teen 1st Place
Alana McGill, Age 14
Title: Overcoming Things
Prizes included a graphic drawing tablet, Schlitterbahn tickets, and a professional art set.
