Two unrelated community groups are planning back-to-back gatherings at Main Plaza in downtown New Braunfels on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Human+Kind, Be Both begins at 10 a.m. Organizer Gigi Bavis said it supports “love, peace and acceptance” in the community and is not affiiated with any political, religious or organizational agendas.
The public is urged to “bring smiles, signs, masks and kindness — You are loved!”
Be Their Voice, End Human Trafficking kicks off at 11 a.m.
Organizers Karlee Lopez and Haylee DeNae want to raise awareness about sex trafficking/exploitation situations.
“If you’re like me you are outraged, sickened and wanting to help these children in any way you possibly can,” Lopez posted on Facebook. “One of the ways we can help is to raise awareness, to give a voice to the voiceless. My hope is that we are able to get the community, and surrounding communities talking. I know this is an uncertain time for many of us for multiple reasons, but I one thing I know we can all agree on is that the children must be saved…our children are not for sale.”
The public is invited to bring signs — and social distance.
“I want to keep things factual and tasteful,” Lopez said. “Q-anon conspiracies are unhelpful and only cause more problems. Please, if you can, keep political flags at home and come with an open heart.”
She said this rally has nothing to do with QAnon, a far-right group whose conspiracy theory alleges there is a deep-state plot against President Donald Trump that involves satanism and child sex trafficking.
“It’s important to remember that QAnon conspiracy theories actually hinder victims being unable to receive the help they actually need,” Lopez said.
