Two Comal County Health Employees Test Positive for COVID-19

Comal County Office of Public Health Director Cheryl Fraser said her office is closed to the public after two employees tested positive for COVID-19.

Comal County said two employees at its Office of Public Health (OPH) tested positive for COVID-19, forcing it to close its doors to the public for two weeks.

Public exposure to the employees is believed to be minimal, the county said in a statement. However, a reduction in staffing could limit the office’s ability to schedule appointments for COVID-19 tests until additional resources are set up.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience, and we encourage anyone needing to set up a COVID-19 testing appointment to keep trying if they have trouble getting through,” OPH Director Cheryl Fraser said.

All public appointments for services like immunizations are canceled. The Indigent Health office, also known as Comal Care, is closed as well.

OPH staff who remain at work are social distancing as much as possible, including wearing masks and limiting exposure to common areas.

The employees who tested positive are self-isolating at home and are not Comal County residents, meaning they will not be included in the next report of COVID-19 cases.

The OPH was cleaned and santized over the weekend.
