USACE Closes Overlook Park Ahead of Anticipated Winter Storm

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the popular walkway over Canyon Dam after the U.S. National Weather Service predicted freezing temperatures and wintry precipitation through Tuesday.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today closed its popular day-use Overlook Park — famous for its spectacular views and walking trail over Canyon Lake dam — after a weather forecast on weather.gov predicted freezing temperatures and wintry precipitation through Tuesday.

Lake Manager Javier Perez Ortiz said the Corps is monitoring weather conditions closely and gate attendants at its parks are in communication with campers.

“The safety of our employees including contractors, visitors and volunteers is our concern,” he said in an email to MyCanyonLake.com. “We will keep everyone informed once it is safe to reopen Overlook Park.”

Dam Community Alliance, which partners with USACE to help finance projects that benefit the community and recreationalists, said on Facebook that it expects the park to reopen on Tuesday.
