The scenic viewing area at Overlook Park and the Dam Service Road reopened to pedestrians today after repairs to the dam’s service bridge were completed two months ahead of schedule.
The public can once again enjoy access to Overlook Park’s scenic viewing area, famous for its sweeping views of Canyon Lake, the Canyon Lake spillway and the Guadalupe River.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Canyon Lake Manager Brett Mazey said completion of the repairs ensures the long-term safety and reliability of the dam’s infrastructure and restores public access to one of the lake’s “most scenic and popular destinations.”
The Overlook scenic viewing area’s winter hours, which run from October 1 to just before Memorial Day Weekend, are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Memorial Day Weekend to September 30.
Visitors are reminded to follow all posted guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Mazey also said North Park will change from a camping area to a day-use site. The public will be able to access the dam’s service road from North Park; however, if Overlook Park is closed, they will need to turn around and walk back to North Park.
