Comal County reported only 32 new COVID-19 cases today but added its 519th death.

On Tuesday, the county reported 146 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths. A New Braunfels man in his 60s died Feb. 2 at a San Antonio hospital and a New Braunfels woman in her 60s died Feb. 11 at a New Braunfels hospital.
The total number of cases of the virus reported in Comal County since March 2020 now stands at 29,657.
In a statement, the county said local hospitals are caring for 27 COVID-positive patients. Of those, six are in intensive care and five are on ventilators. Approximately 79% of these patients are unvaccinated. Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Comal County are necessarily residents.
Some 63.42% of county residents are fully vaccinated.
Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported a seven-day average of 8,104 new confirmed cases, statewide, 222 fatalities (seven-day average) and 6,914 current hospitalizations.
“Similar to the end of our other COVID surges, cases and hospitalizations are dropping fast but fatalities are still rising,” DSHS said in a statement.
Texas’ molecular positivity rate is 11.85%.
Comal County residents wanting to test for COVID are advised to visit the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s website for testing locations across the county.
The Public Health Department is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older and Pfizer vaccines for anyone ages five and up. Booster vaccines also are available.
