The blue wave did not sweep red Comal County, where a majority of voters cast ballots for Republicans who lost major statewide elections.
As of 12:30 a.m. with 88% of expected votes in, the Associated Press called the U.S. Senate race in favor of Democrat Texas House Rep. James Talarico, who captured 53.9% of the vote. Democrat Gina Hinojosa will become the state’s first Latina governor, ousting three-time incumbent Greg Abbott with 52.6% of the vote.
Democrat Vikki Goodwin is the new attorney general, beating three-time incumbent Dan Patrick with 51.6% of the vote; and Democrat Nathan Johnson won the race for attorney general with 52.2% of the vote.
It was a different story on Comal County’s elections website.
