A public hearing on Comal County’s proposed $167.85 million 2024 budget and salaries of elected officials is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 during Commissioners Court.
Commissioners meet in the historic county courthouse, 100 Main Plaza, New Braunfels.
County Judge Sherman Krause presented the budget, which is $33 million more than 2023’s budget, to the court on Aug. 10.
The budget will raise more total property taxes than last year’s budget by $11,256,670 or 13.9%. Of that amount, $4,565,961 is tax revenue to be raised from new property taxes added to the tax roll this year.
Budget considerations include continued population growth; keeping the tax rate as low as possible; new personnel, classifications and equipment; and contingencies budgeted from the fund balance.
