A burn ban goes into effect Friday morning for unincorporated areas of Comal County.
Comal County commissioners voted to reinstate the burn ban today after Fire Marshal Kory Klabunde said the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) is expected to rise to between 493-498 points by Friday.
By law, counties implement burn bans when KBDI reaches 500 points. KBDI measures the amount of moisture in the soil.
Comal County is in extreme drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Under the burn ban no outdoor burning is allowed. Brush, leaves and trash cannot be burned.
Campfires, chimineas, fire pits and bonfires of any size are prohibited.
