Blaming July flooding and naturally occurring minerals that react with air, Texas Water Company (TWC) said the discolored water flowing from its Park Shores system into homes and businesses in north Canyon Lake, Blanco, Bulverde and Spring Branch is safe to drink and meets all health-related standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
In an email to customers and on social media posts today the water utility said it’s responding to concerns by adding TCEQ-approved treatment to reduce discoloration, sampling water across treatment plants, flushing key areas daily and monitoring the situation closely with regional partners.
“Naturally occurring minerals are reacting with air, causing rust-colored or yellow water,” TWC said. “July’s flooding also impacted the lake’s ecosystem, changing water chemistry.”
There are “minimal issues” with the Triple Peak system, TWC said.
