Four new graduates of the Comal County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) today celebrated their successful completion of a program that provides military veterans with an alternative to the traditional criminal justice system.

The court was established in 2015 by Judge Charles Stephens, presiding judge of Comal County Court at Law #2.

VTC is designed to reduce arrests and promote self-sufficiency through sobriety, employment and education. Veterans are assigned to a team of counselors, mentors, attorneys and court staff.

“We are proud of today’s graduates and grateful for their service to our country, as well as their perseverance in this program,” county spokesperson Cary Zayas said.
