Weather Service Confirms EF-1 Tornado Touched Down North of Canyon Lake

The U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down four miles southwest of Kendalia on Friday and tracked east along FM 306, impacting neighborhoods just north of Canyon Lake.

There were no fatalities or injuries.

Estimated peak wind gusts were 110 mph. Strong winds up to 100 mph extended beyond the tornadic circulation.

The path length was 20.1 miles, with a maximum width of 300 yards.

The tornado was on the ground from 11:35 -11:58 p.m. Friday.

NWS said the tornado moved east through rural Kendall County, producing sporadic tree damage with winds estimated at 65-80 mph. After entering Comal County, the tornado crossed the intersection of U.S. 281 and FM 306.

Five electrical poles and one light pole were brought down near a gas station at this intersection, with peak wind speeds estimated up to 110 mph.

The tornado continued east-southeast into portions of the Indian Hill subdivision, producing sporadic tree, fence, and shingle damage, and then east, paralleling FM 306 to the south.

After crossing Tanglewood Trail, the tornado impacted several blocks with concentrated tree and shingle damage. Winds were estimated up to 90 mph through this area.

The tornado continued east, through northern areas of Mystic Shores, weakening and producing sporadic tree damage.

Farther east, the tornado crossed FM 306 near Hancock Road and dissipated shortly thereafter.
