Comal County closed Canyon Lake Boat Ramp #1 today after the water level fell to 889.03 feet (msl).
Boat Ramp #1, located at 579 Skyline Dr. on the south side of Canyon Lake, closes at 889.07 feet and at 914 feet, when the lake is above the full pool level of 909 feet.
All nine county-operated boat ramps are now closed. The only ramps still open are #14, operated by Joint Base San Antonio; #18 in Canyon Park, operated by WORD of Comal County; and #19 at Canyon Lake Marina.
To offset the sting of drought-related closures, WORD of Comal County announced in late October that Boat Ramp #18 in Canyon Park on the north side of Canyon Lake would remain open indefinitely rather than close for the winter.
“We recognize that Boat Ramp #18 is one of the few ramps currently open on Canyon Lake, and we want to continue providing the community with lake access and recreational opportunities,” WORD said in a statement.
Only Area 2 of Canyon Park — which also includes a fishing pier, shoreline access for swimming and relaxing, grills, and covered picnic sites — will be accessible to visitors.
The 485-acre park is located on Canyon Park Rd. Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The park closes at dark.

Boat Ramp #1
Drought closed the ramp earlier this year, but July 4 weekend floods upstream of Canyon Lake in Kerr County raised lake levels to 899.90 feet on July 12 and the ramp reopened.
Boat Ramp #1 underwent significant upgrades while closed.
There are now parking spaces for 16 trailers and 20 non-trailers.
Riprap, or loose stone, was added to prevent erosion and improve long-term safety. The tract was expanded by .422 acres to allow for the installation of pipe rail to contain vehicles along the west side of the easement.
