With a large amount of floodwater entering Canyon Lake from the Upper Guadalupe River and more expected today, Jacobs Creek, Canyon, and Comal parks closed today.

Nichol’s Landing in Spring Branch, a favorite spot for kayakers, also closed.

Cranes Mill Park, located on a peninsula near the southwestern shore of Canyon Lake where the Guadalupe River flows into the lake, is open.

Water Oriented Recreation of Comal County (WORD), which operates the park, said the public can watch floodwaters from the Upper Guadalupe River enter Canyon Lake.

Swimming will not be allowed due to debris and hazards as the lake rises.

A dangerous flood wave moving downstream along the Guadalupe River is expected to reach Canyon Lake around 4 p.m. today, July 16.

WORD did not say whether the parks will reopen this weekend.
