Comal County today rescinded the burn ban for unincorporated areas, including Canyon Lake.

Thanks to heavy weekend rainfall, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) rose to 521 points Saturday.

Fire Marshal Kory Klabunde reminds residents to follow all Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) burn rules listed on comalcounty.gov.

County Judge Kristen Hoyt is required by state law to impose a burn ban when the KBDI falls to 500 points.

KBDI is used to determine forest-fire potential and is expressed in hundredths of an inch of soil moisture depletion. The index ranges from 0 to 800.
