Texas Division of Emergency Management’s (TDEM) Wildfire Danger Forecast calls for dangerous fire conditions in Comal County on Monday as a combination of low humidity, dry weather, and high temperatures sets up ahead of a strong cold front.
The county’s fire danger is “high” to “very high” according to a map issued Saturday. Comal County is currently under a burn ban.
However, the county is not included in a fire weather watch issued for Monday afternoon that includes Kerrville and Fredericksburg. Extreme fire-weather conditions exist for the western half of Texas.
TDEM advises the public to stay informed, avoid activities that cause sparks, and make a plan for emergencies.
According to Texas A&M Forest Service, 9 out of 10 wildfires are human-caused, meaning 90% can be prevented with simple actions.
