The Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD) today said it will open Canyon Lake Boat Ramp #18 in Canyon Park seven days a week.

Previously the ramp was only open on weekends because Canyon Park, located at 1769 Park Rd., Canyon Lake, is closed for the winter season.

“WORD recognizes that there are only two usable boat ramps right now, and wants to continue this service,” said General Manager Mike Dussere. “Please understand that there are significant challenges to doing so including staffing, upkeep and ongoing park projects and infrastructure concerns.

“We are making the decision to stay open in order to assist the boating public in accessing Canyon Lake,” he said.

Due to drought, all Canyon Lake boat ramps are closed except for #18 and #19 at Canyon Lake Marina.

Hours of operation for #18 are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for launching. All boats must be out of the park by 4 p.m. Entry fee is $5 for vehicles with Comal County registration stickers and $20 for vehicles registered outside the county.

Only the boat ramp is open. The rest of the park is closed.

WORD could decide to close the boat ramp in the event of damages, vandalism or other “behavior issues,” Dussere said.

The new schedule will be reassessed at the end of January.

Canyon Park is a 485-acre park located on the north shore of Canyon Lake. It is open March through October as a day-use only facility.

  1. Do you anticipate the lake levels recovering in the next year if we get Spring rains? Is hydrilla worse? Are we selling water to nearby subdivisions?

  2. Absolutely and absolutely. No wonder the lake is at all time low. Drought or too many subdv taking the water out of the lake. Good news we are now owned by a california based company. Wonder where the connection is?
