The Canyon Lake Professional Firefighters Association (CLPFA) knows firsthand what life is like for people who lose their homes to fires.
In an instant, everything changes — the roof over their heads, belongings and sense of security.
To help the people they rescue, CLPFA formed a nonprofit, the Canyon Lake Firefighters Foundation, to contribute more to local organizations and patrons.
The first item of business was creating a Structure Fire Relief Fund to provide gift cards to people left temporarily homeless after house fires.
“The plan is to have gift cards available for structure-fire victims to be presented to them the night of the incident, for them to have a place to stay,” said CLPFA President Charles Richard. “We have seen too many circumstances of our structure-fire victims ‘not having anywhere to go,’ and we are trying to remedy that issue the best way we know how.”
The Nickerson family became the fund’s first beneficiary in April, when they lost their home in River Chase to a fire.
CLPFA hopes to raise $5,000 for its new foundation. To donate, click here.
