Canyon Lake High School student Jackson Alvarez earned the Outstanding Performer award for his vocal solo at the 2025 Texas UIL State Solo-Ensemble contest.

Canyon Lake High School (CLHS) choir soloist Jackson Alvarez was named a 2025 Outstanding Performer at this summer’s Texas UIL State Solo-Ensemble Contest.

He and eight other music students were recognized by the Comal ISD Board of Trustees at their regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 23.

This is the highest individual honor for a student musician at the state level.

Alvarez won for his vocal solo under the direction of CLHS Choir Director Penny Gabrielsen.

Of the approximately 100,000 students participating in the regional UIL music contests and the thousands of musicians who performed at the state contest, only two to three percent of the solo performances earn the distinguished honor of being recognized as outstanding performers.

The CLHS senior received a gold medal representing “the attainment by an individual of superior musicianship.”
