A 57-year-old Canyon Lake woman who stuffed 27.85 grams of amphetamine in her pants during a traffic stop in 2023 was sentenced to 25 years in prison for drug possession and 25 years for tampering with physical evidence by Judge Bruce Boyer of the 22nd District Court.
In a statement today, the Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office said Angel Yvette Halliburton pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1, more than four but less than 200 grams of meth.
The plea deal also included two counts of bail jumping-failure to appear on pending charges, and tampering with physical evidence. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison on each count.
Halliburton’s sentence was “enhanced” since she is a habitual offender with prior felony drug convictions out of Atascosa and Bexar counties, where she served two- and three-year prison sentences.
On Jan. 19, 2023, Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies stopped Halliburton on FM 3159 near Cranes Mill Road and detained her for active arrest warrants.
She denied there were drugs or weapons in her vehicle but told deputies she had served jail time for gun possession.
A drug dog alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics and deputies searched the vehicle.
A large, concealed plastic bag containing 27.85 grams of meth was discovered inside Halliburton’s pants.
The Canyon Lake resident admitted the substance was meth and told deputies she hid it in her pants because she believed the vehicle would be searched due to her history.
