Canyon Lake’s scenic Overlook Park reopened today.

Overlook areas closed on Dec. 19, 2022 after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), which operates the park, brought in heavy construction equipment to enhance security, upgrade parking areas and add an additional exit lane.

An inspection by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is expected to resume this week. The work could impact downstream water releases.

Periodic inspections of the dam, control tower, conduit, stilling basin, spillway and other associated facilities ensure USACE’s water-control infrastructure is properly maintained and functions as designed and intended, USACE spokesperson Clayton Church said in a Jan. 24 statement.

USACE encourages visitors to practice leave-no-trace, use designated trash receptacles and to always wear a life jacket while boating or anytime in or near the water.
