Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and Comal ISD are working on a new program to beef up security in schools.

CCSO Lt. Mark Long said the plan calls for placing retired Texas peace officers in schools as contract-paid reserve officers.

Applicants must have a valid Texas Peace Officer License or be honorably retired and in good-standing with law enforcement. They must pass written and physical tests and a background check.
