A Comal County Sheriff’s deputy (CCSO) who shot and injured a ‘suicidal subject’ while responding to a call Sunday is on administrative leave pending an investigation by Texas Rangers.

The wounded individual — who was not identified in a statement released today by CCSO – is in the intensive care unit at a regional hospital following surgery.

The identity of the deputy, who shot the subject after deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Elm Creek Road in New Braunfels around noon, also was not released.

Spokesperson Jennifer Smith said deputies had established communication with the subject before the deputy discharged his firearm.

Deputies provided life-saving measures before first responders with Canyon Lake Fire & EMS arrived on the scene and transported the subject by ground to the hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.
