Around 10 a.m. today, the City of Buda in neighboring Hays County alerted residents U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were in the area.
Public Information Officer Michelle Henley told MyCanyonLake.com that nobody knew ICE was in town until employees showed up for work and found an ICE transport bus parked at city hall.
An ICE official asked whether the agency could leave the vehicle there for the day, but Buda officials declined, saying public parking spaces are limited.
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra swiftly followed up on Facebook, crediting city officials for showing leadership.
“When federal activity creates uncertainty, speaking plainly and confirming facts is not easy — but it is the most helpful thing a city can do. Being out front takes pressure, so the public doesn’t have to rely on fear.”
Several hours later, the Kyle Police Department received a call from Homeland Security/ICE requesting ambulance assistance for a person detained by federal authorities. In a Facebook post, police said neither the City of Kyle nor the police department are involved with today’s sweep by ICE nor were they aware of ICE’s presence prior to the incident.
What would City of New Braunfels and Comal County officials do if an ICE bus showed up at city hall or the courthouse?
Spokespersons for the City of New Braunfels and Comal County did not respond to requests for comment.
Pct. 4 Commissioner Jen Crownover, who represents Canyon Lake on Commissioners Court, said she “highly doubts” the county would follow suit with Buda or Hays County officials.
“Laws are enforced in Comal County,” she said. “…We support law enforcement and the agencies enforcing the law.”
Precinct 1 Commissioner Doug Leecock told MyCanyonLake.com he is unaware of any activity or any “impending announcements regarding ICE.”
He represents the southside of Canyon Lake.
Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said he is aware of some ICE activity in Comal County but did not provide a timeline or further details.

I am proud of Hays County and Buda for their leadership. Illegal immigrants do have certain rights under the United States Constitution.
It’s only a matter of time before ICE pulls the same stunts they pulled in Minnesota here, if they continue to be allowed to operate. They dont use proper diligence or act like police, they run around pulling over anyone that isn’t white simply because a guy in a suit the “president” likes told them to without regard for if the person they’re going after has proof of residency or citizenship… They’re going to kill someone and when people get upset somehow this person they shot up will be linked to tren de aragua even if they from a place like Cambodia…. This is what AUTHORITARIAN governments look like
Shameful on Buda, Hays county! Texas is better. Laws are laws. Interference and obstruction is against the laws, so don’t be surprised to find yourself in lawsuits. Everytime an illegal alien causes damage, steals, hurts an American, I would sue the hell out of the city for allowing an illegal alien to stay here. As far as the government goes you would start losing government sponsored jobs and money.
We do not need our laws enforced by those who act above our laws. ICE needs to be ABOLISHED. I cannot trust one who says it is shameful when one lifts a rock to reveal the insects beneath, more-so than the crawling insects themselves! If it is shameful to illuminate the barbarity displayed by ICE, then I should take on the whole world’s shame!
ICE agents KILLED a US citizen, and have attacked most viciously many more. If their goals were truly aligned with immigration enforcement, would our citizens not be safe? Would our women and children be safe knowing they will not be threatened with guns or tackled or choked or thrown into vehicles unmarked, their belongings taken? Nay, it is not so!
If you believe in a safer America, then you must do what is right and have the courage to find another way!
