Canyon Lake High School sophomore Cody Brannon, who plays baritone saxophone, is one of two Comal ISD students selected to perform before thousands in the Texas All-State Jazz Ensemble on Feb. 11, 2023 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

Making all-state is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive, Comal ISD Communications Specialist Salwa Landford said.

Brannon and Davenport High School junior Matthew Stanford, a percussionist, are now among the top high-school musicians in the state.

The two students will prepare for next year’s performance at the Texas Music Educators Association’s (TMEA) annual convention with three days of rehearsals under the baton of nationally recognized conductors.

High school students selected to perform at an all-state concert have competed in a series of auditions to qualify to play at this level. TMEA sponsors the all-state competition.
