Comal and Canyon parks on Canyon Lake reopen for the season Saturday.
Although Canyon Lake is only 48.5% full and motorized vessels are not allowed to launch from the parks’ three boat ramps, there are plenty of other recreational opportunities for visitors.
Non-motorized watercraft like canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards are allowed at the boat ramps, and swimming is permitted in Comal Park.
“While the water may be farther away from the parking lots than it used to be, staff members have been working hard to improve water-access areas and adjust open-park areas to create the best possible spaces for people to enjoy,” WORD of Comal County, which operates the parks, posted on social media.
Canyon Park
The 485-acre lakefront park on the lake’s north side at 1769 Canyon Park Rd. is day-use only.
March operating hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Last park entry allowed is 4:30 p.m. Regular summer hours resume April 1.
Swim beaches #1 and #2 are closed due to low water levels. The main park at the end of the causeway is open and features picnic sites with water access.
The park now offers a walkway over the water, fishing pier, playground, and sand volleyball.
The 7.6-mile Madrone Trail inside the park features a pollinator garden.
