Comal County: 132 New COVID-19 Cases, Death of New Braunfels Woman in Her 60s Reported Over Holiday Weekend

Comal County reported 132 new COVID-19 cases from Dec. 31, 2021 to Monday.

In a statement issued today, county Public Information Officer Cary Zayas also confirmed the death of a New Braunfels woman in her 60s who passed away at home from the virus on Dec. 27, 2021. The total number of deceased is now 485.

The total number of cases reported in Comal County since March 2020 is 21,404.

Today, Comal County hospitals report caring for 27 COVID-19 patients. Of those, five are in intensive care and four are on ventilators. Approximately 79% of these patients are unvaccinated. Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Comal County are necessarily county residents.

Some 61.77% of county residents are fully vaccinated (two shots).

The Public Health Department is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone five years and up. Booster vaccines also are available.

Today, San Antonio Metro Health raised the city’s risk level from “mild” to “severe” after 3,900 new COVID-19 cases were reported today, Monday and Tuesday.

Texas’ positivity rate ticked up to 34.4% after 44,431 new cases were confirmed.
