Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) will honor a four-legged hero who died in 2021 at a special ceremony from 9 -10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at CCSO headquarters, 3005 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels.

A statue honoring K9 King, a German shepherd, and all other canine partners who work alongside law enforcement, will be unveiled at the event.

“Ask any K9 handler, and they’ll tell you these dogs are more than just working partners,” Public Information Officer Cary Zayas said. “They’re family. They spend countless hours training and working side-by-side, building a bond that’s hard to put into words.

“This statue is a way to honor that special connection and recognize the K9s who have given so much to protect our community.”

German-born K9 King worked in the U.S. Air Force before joining CCSO. He officially retired in 2019

Several of his direct descendants also serve with sheriff’s deputies.
