Comal County lifted the burn ban for unincorporated areas today after 1-4 inches of rain fell over the last several days.
Campfires, burn barrels, fire pits and rings are now allowed. For more information visit the county fire marshal’s website.
The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) fell below 500 points, the threshold that legally requires counties to declare burn bans, Precinct 1 Commissioner Doug Leecck said.
County commissioners reinstated the burn ban Aug. 20 when the drought index rose to 553 points.
KBDI is an index used to determine forest-fire potential. The drought index is based on a daily water balance with precipitation and moisture. An index of 0 represents no moisture depletion and an index of 800 represents absolutely dry conditions.
