Comal ISD Opens Registration for Free, Reduced-Price School Meals

Comal ISD on Tuesday opened registration for its free and reduced-price school meals program for eligible children.

The district is sending letters to parents and guardians of students who live in households that qualify for the program.

Applications may be submitted at any time during the school year.

Criteria:

  • Household income at or below income-eligibility requirements
  • Automatic eligibility – Family members enrolled in Supplemental Nutrition Assitance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
  • Program Participant – Child’s status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant or displaced by a declared disaster
  • Child’s enrollment in Head Start or Even Start

Income Eligibility:

An adult in the household must complete an application and return it to their student’s cafeteria manager. Applicant must provide the names of all household members; amount, frequency and source of current information for each household member; and the last four digits of the Social Security number of the adult household member who signs the application.

If the applicant does not have a Social Security number check the box for ‘No Social Security Number.’

Categorical or Program Eligibility:

Comal ISD is working with local agencies to identify all children who are categorically and program eligible.

The district’s Child Nutrition Department will notify households of children who do not need to complete an application.

A parent or guardian who has not received a letter for their household but feels they qualify for the program should contact the district’s Child Nutrition Department at 830-221-2067.
