Comal County Judge Sherman Krause swore in newly elected and reelected public officials today, including Pct. 1 Commissioner Doug Leecock and Pct. 4 Constable Ali Flores, who becomes the first woman to serve in this position.

The two Republicans replace Donna Eccleston, who stepped down Thursday after 16 years on Commissioners Court, and Pct. 4 Constable Shane Rapp, who chose not to seek reelection after 22 years of service to care for wife Leslee Martz, who has cancer.

Flores ran unopposed while Leecock won a primary runoff against Joyce Yannuzzi, who works for state Sen. Donna Campbell in District 25, before beating Democrat Julie Sanders on Nov. 5.

Leecock spearheaded the Canyon Lake Boat Ramps Community Alliance. During his campaign he promised to become the voice of the south side of Canyon Lake.

Flores, endorsed by Rapp, promised to serve Comal County by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with other agencies and citizens.

Both Eccleston and Rapp were visibly emotional after receiving standing ovations at their last Commissioners Court meeting Tuesday.

Through tears, Eccleston said leaving her county “family” was difficult.

“It’s not so much the buildings, although we have done a fabulous job with the buildings, with everything else, doing our best through the years we’ve accomplished a lot, and it’s the ‘we’ because all of us are in this together,” she said. “So I am very honored and humbled by all of you.”

Rapp said he hopes to continue to serve the county in other ways.

“You let a 27-year-old kid basically come in and get raised by the county and the county family,” he said. “It’s amazing. We’ve done lots of great things. I look forward to seeing how the county continues to progress and how Pct. 4 continues to progress and I look forward to continuing to be involved in the community and serve with a steadfast intent to ensure that this county continues on the trajectory and path that I know it has the capability to do.”
