(L-r) Travis County Precinct 5 Constable Carlos Lopez, Comal County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jen Crownover, and Texas House Dist. 45 Rep. Erin Zwiener were recognized by the County Treasurers Association of Texas.

Four county treasurers from across Texas showed up in Comal County Commissioners Court Thursday to thank Precinct 4 Commissioner Jen Crownover for advocating for county government in Austin.

Crownover was recognized by the County Treasurers Association of Texas (CTAT) earlier this month for working to ensure counties have the tools they need to serve constituents.

“She is a friend to county government,” said Tyler County Commissioner Leeann Monk. ” As you know, sometimes county government gets the short end of the stick.

“I don’t know of any time that we’ve ever had the opportunity, that Commissioner Crownover has not supported and stood with county treasurers. … She is fantastic.”

Monk said the state is “taking notice as well.”

Crownover wants the legislature to grant counties limited land-use authority to give them some say over rapid growth and development.

She thanked state Rep. Erin Zwiener, who represents neighboring Hays County, and state Sen. Sarah Eckhardt, who represents Travis County in the legislature.

They also were recognized by CTAT.

Crownover said the two legislators understand how counties operate.

“(They) never hesitate to ask us when they need county input about the cause and effect of legislation as it plays out at home, by those of us tasked with administering the laws they pass. This meant so much.”

  1. Pct.4 County Commissioner Jen Crownover did pursue a 30 million loan from the Texas Water Development board to create a Water quality protection land program. 3 to 1 vote Pct 2 opposed it..This would protect the Trinity Aquifer.
