Details Emerge about Last Week’s Drowning in Canyon Lake

The body of a Cibolo man who drowned in Canyon Lake on Friday was taken to a private boat ramp in Canyon Park (shown above) that is reserved for law enforcement.

The 49-year-old Cibolo man who drowned Friday in Canyon Lake was trying to save his girlfriend, who was struggling in the water.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Captain Game Warden Javier Fuentes said Ryan Johnson’s private boat was anchored near JBSA Recreation Park when the incident occurred.

TPWD and Comal County constables arrived to assist after other boaters pulled him out of the water. They performed CPR en route to the nearest shoreline, JBSA Recreation Park.

Paramedics arrived and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was transported to a private boat ramp at Canyon Park that is used only for law enforcement and first responders.

There is no pending investigation.

Johnson was not a service member.
