Canyon Lake Fire/EMS Chief Robert Mikel said rescuers working with the Hays County and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) dive teams this afternoon found the body of Sunday’s drowning victim, 41-year-old San Antonio resident Robert Berlingeri.

“We hope this provides some closure for his family,” Mikel said.

TPWD game wardens recovered the body from Canyon Lake.

Berlingeri drowned after falling off his boat along with his two-year-old daughter. She survived the incident.

His body was recovered in approximately 80 feet of water around 2:40 p.m., said TPWD spokesperson Kirk McDonnell.

The TPWD dive team boat identified an image with sonar equipment, and Hays Fire Department and Canyon Lake rescue divers made the recovery close to Boat Ramp No. 1, he said.

Berlingeri was not wearing a life jacket.

TPWD is investigating the drowning.

Berlinger is the fifth person to drown in Canyon Lake this year. Two other people were killed in the lake by a boat propeller on June 10.
