The Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD) will temporarily reopen Canyon Park on Saturday and Sunday for Open Fish Weekend, a chance for families to enjoy the facilities, recreate and fish.

Admission fees of $5 for residents and $20 per non-Comal County registered vehicle are waived for the event.

Gates will open at 7 a.m. Feb. 24-25. The park closes at 4 p.m. Visitors must be out of the park by 6 p.m.

Only the main areas of Canyon Park can be accessed, including boat ramp #18. Swim beaches and other barricaded areas will remain closed for upkeep and park projects.

The park is closed for the season and normally reopens on March 1.

WORD canceled its annual Funfish 2024 due to low lake levels but decided to offer two days of fishing instead.

The 485-acre park is located on the north shore of Canyon Lake at 1769 Canyon Park Rd., and is day-use only. Amenties include picnic sites, a boat ramp, a pea gravel-and-sand beach and restrooms.

Madrone Trail runs through the area.
