Happy Father’s Day!

If you’re here to launch a boat and enjoy the lake, plan ahead. Only six of Canyon Lake’s 23 boat ramps are still open due to the ongoing drought.

Unless you arrive very early, expect extremely long wait times to put in.

Anyone waiting in line faces heat indices as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday.

As of Friday, Canyon Lake is  75.5% full at 896.65 feet. The water level has fallen an inch since Memorial Day Weekend.

The status of each boat ramp depends on the level of water in the Canyon Reservoir. The parameters are not the same for each boat ramp.

Boat ramps still open:

  • Free ramps are #6, #17 and #21.
  • The fee for entering Canyon Park, home of #18, is $5 per vehicle for Comal County residents and $20 for visitors. Canyon Park closes at capacity. For realtime status updates, visit the park’s Facebook page.
  • Canyon Lake Marina, #19, is privately operated. The fee for a ramp pass is $30.
  • Boat ramp #20 is located inside Potter’s Creek Park, which is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The fee is $30 for day trippers and $35 for overnight campers.

Docks open to the public are:

  • #21, free
  • #20, Potters Creek camping $30-$35
  • #19 Canyon Lake Marina, $35
  • #18 Canyon Park, $20 per car for non-residents, $5 for vehicles with Comal County registration stickers

It is illegal to park or swim at closed boat ramps.

There are porta-potties at ramps #6, #18, and #21. Both marinas have toilets.

Dogs are allowed at Comal and Canyon parks.
