Family Fest Provides Free Backpacks, Haircuts, Health Screenings and Other Back-to-School Basics for Canyon Lake Students

Community Resource and Recreation Center of Canyon Lake’s (CRRC) Family Fest backpack giveaway takes place 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Rec Center, 125 Mabel Jones Dr., Canyon Lake.

Free back-to-school basics for Canyon Lake students include backpacks filled with school supplies, haircuts and health screenings.

Games and freebies like balloon animals also are part of the fun at the CRRC’s annual event.

Parents and guardians can meet with representatives from area nonprofits and community resource groups including:

  • RecoveryWerks!, which supports families and teens struggling with substance abuse
  • Volunteers in Medicine, which provides health care information for underinsured or uninsured families
  • Any Baby Can, which connects parents and guardians with healthcare and counseling services
  • Methodist Healthcare Ministries, which provides information about the Texas Diaper Program
  • Canyon Lake’s Tye Preston Memorial Library (TPML), whose librarians will share information about services
  • Car seat  checks

Anyone who brings a can of food for the CRRC’s Food Pantry will receive a free raffle ticket.
