The trail heads at the Guadalupe Trail at the river outlet from the lake will close to the public from Friday night to Sunday evening, the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) said today.

“Sadly, this is due to the past years of them being overrun, trashed, vandalized and abused by weekend visitors, as well as the minimal staff of the Corps to operate and enforce on the lake and lake parks,” according to a post shared today on Pct. 4 Comal County Commissioner Jen Crownover’s Facebook page. “We can still enjoy these spots during the week, just please enjoy them responsibly.”

She also heads up the Dam Community Alliance, a partnership between USACE and Canyon Lake residents.

The parking lot at Overlook Park is now limited to less than 70 parking spots for the same reasons. The new gate system for entry helps to limit parking.

Parking is not allowed along the South Access Road and cars will be towed. Hiking up the earthen side of the dam is illegal.
