The two-acre Madrone Trail Pollinator Garden at Canyon Park, 1769 Canyon Park Rd., officially opens Friday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m.

The site is open to the public at no charge and is within easy walking distance of the Madrone Trail parking lot.

The Water Oriented Recreation District of Canyon Lake (WORD) and Texas Master Naturalists Lindheimer Chapter used native flora to create a 40,000-square-foot butterfly-shaped garden.

Areas surrounding the butterfly include a pollinating field designed to educate the public about the importance of native plants, pollinators, conservation and managed care.

The grand opening includes a short walking tour of the garden. Experts will answer questions.

Sea Scouts Ship 26, Ace Hardware and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also volunteered their time, expertise, funding, project work and services.
