Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke brings his People of Texas Town Hall-Comal County to Canyon Lake High School at noon Saturday.
The school is located at 8555 FM 32 in Fischer. The event is sponsored by Democrats of Comal County.
O’Rourke had been scheduled to address supporters at Maven’s Inn & Grill in Startzville/Canyon Lake, but his appearance was canceled after several patrons threatened to boycott the popular venue.
A source with knowledge of the situation said those who complained live in Las Brisas subdivision, a gated community near the restaurant.
O’Rourke’s campaign staff selected the new venue.
This is false information. Beto will NOT be speaking at CLHS.
He will not be at the High School either. Comal ISD sent out an email today.
Comal ISD released the following this morning:
This morning it was reported in local media that the Beto O’Rourke campaign is holding a campaign event at Canyon Lake High School this Saturday at noon. This announcement by the Beto Campaign was made prematurely as no contract with Comal ISD for use of the facility has been signed. In addition, the request for use of the facility had not been fully and properly vetted internally.
It is not the district’s practice to host political campaign events. Neither the principal of Canyon Lake High School, the Superintendent, nor the Board President, or any members of the Board of Trustees were made aware of this request by the Beto Campaign.
Again, because it is not the district’s practice to host political campaign events Canyon Lake High School will not be hosting the Beto Campaign this Saturday.
