May storms destroyed the CRRC Rec Center’s 20-year-old manufactured building, Executive Director Sean Bailey said Thursday.

Located adjacent to the main gym at 125 Mabel Jones Drive, the building provided space for a number of activities including programs for seniors, Silver Sneakers, Zumba and other classes.

These are now conducted in the gym.

“High winds and heavy rains caused major roof issues and resulted in substantial interior damage,” Bailey said. “This compounds maintenance challenges common in such aging, modular structures. Estimates to repair the Community Center far exceed funds available when weighed against the building’s long-term viability.

“We are in the process of determining the most cost-effective way to move forward while still serving the needs of our community,” he said.
