McKenna Foundation Invites Comal Residents to Vote for Their Favorite Nonprofit

The thrift store at CRRC of Canyon Lake generates a lot of income for the nonprofit, but the area charity hopes Canyon Lake residents will show even more support with their votes.

The McKenna Foundation in New Braunfels invites Comal County residents to vote for their favorite nonprofit.

The winner will secure a year-end, unrestricted grant.

Deadline for nominations is Dec. 11. Click here or visit McKenna.org to submit your choice to McKenna Foundation, whose mission is advancing the health and well-being of the New Braunfels community.

“What organization has made a substantial difference in your life or the lives of others? Which nonprofit has been an incredible partner in the community? Who deserves special recognition for going above and beyond? This is your opportunity to shine a light on the organization that has made a lasting impact,” McKenna said in a statement.

CRRC of Canyon Lake, which provides assistance, support, and food to those in need, shared on Facebook some of the reasons the Canyon Lake area could use extra grant funding for its services:

  • Around 68.8% of the resource center’s clients face significant obstacles with major impacts on their lives.
  • Canyon Lake’s cost of living is 14% higher than the state average.
  • Some 75% of animals surrendered to shelters are given up because families are struggling with costs or facing housing instability. In 2025 alone, CRRC distributed more than 21,000 pounds of pet food to Canyon Lake families.
  • Canyon Lake drivers commute an average of 40 minutes one way, so the CRRC’s Food Pantry now offers extended hours to reach people unable to shop during normal business hours.
