New Braunfels police arrested two San Antonio men on June 2 after allegedly finding nine bags of methamphetamine with a street value of more than $100,000 in their car.

In a statement Monday, the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) said officers conducted an 11 p.m. Friday traffic stop on a gray Ford Fusion in the 800 block of I-35 North.

After a conversation with Rodney Fernandez, 32, and driver Alfonso Villarreal, 25, police searched a backpack in the trunk of the car and found nine gallon-sized, zip-top bags filled with a large amount of crystal-like substance.

Both men were taken into custody and charged with the manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

Fernandez was later released on a $25,000 surety bond. Villarreal remains in Comal County Jail.
