The doctor is in and free of charge to uninsured Comal County residents who visit Acacia Medical Mission’s Wellness on Wheels (WOW) mobile clinic from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursdays.

A partnership with H.I.S. Centre, Helping Hands Food Pantry and Methodist Healthcare Ministries has allowed the nonprofit to expand clinic hours for its walk-in clinic, located at 11755 U.S. Highway 281 North, Spring Branch.

“The acute walk-in clinic has become a source of hope and healing,” said Acacia Business Manager Cassie Carter. “With much support from the community we are excited to extend the availability of the WOW, now open every Thursday. This expansion marks another milestone in Acacia Medical Mission’s unwavering dedication to providing free medical care to the uninsured so that no one in our area is left behind.”

WOW belongs to H.I.S. Centre through a grant the organization received from the McKenna Foundation. Acacia’s providers staff the clinic through its partnership with H.I.S.

The nonprofit offers free, faith-based healthcare services and wellness education to people in need.

In August 2023, the nonprofit group conducted a trial run for the clinic, setting up at a church two Thursdays a month.

H.I.S. Centre began providing this service in 2013 and later partnered with other nonprofits like Acacia Medical Mission as the need for such services grew.
