The U.S. National Weather Service warns of high fire danger for the New Braunfels area from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday due to gusty West to Northwest winds arriving late today ahead of a cold front.

A wind advisory also has been issued from midnight through 1 p.m. Friday.

Winds between 25-35 mph are expected in Comal County. The forecast maximum wind gusts tonight through Friday are 47 mph.

Canyon Lake is not included in the Red Flag Warning issued for counties west of Kerrville.

However, any fires that start will have the potential to rapidly spread. Outdoor burning is not recommended. The public is advised to secure loose objects.

Wind Safety Recommendations

  • Secure loose objects such as trash cans, light furniture or decorations that may blow away.
  • Keep a firm grip on the steering wheel and watch for fallen debris on the road.
  • Avoid outdoor burning and dispose of cigarettes and matches properly.
