The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) Austin-San Antonio says a significant rainfall event will unfold Friday night in the Canyon Lake area.

Periods of heavy rainfall and flooding remain likely Friday night through Saturday across Central and South Central Texas. Severe weather can’t be ruled out. Flood watches could go into effect tonight.

The forecast calls for 3-6 inches of rain in many areas along and west of the I-35 corridor. Locally heavier totals of up to 10 inches of rain are possible. Flood risk is possible in smaller streams, rivers and low-water crossings.

The Canyon Lake area is included in a bright red bulls-eye on an NWS weather map for Saturday’s excessive rainfall outlook.
