Groundbreaking ceremonies for a new $2.5 million, 9,000-square-foot building that will serve as headquarters for New Braunfels Christian Ministries’ Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at 1225 W. San Antonio, New Braunfels.

Oakwood Church Senior Pastor Ray Still, Executive Director of New Braunfels Christian Ministries Jim Wesson, New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman and City Councilmember Andres Campos will attend.

Funds were raised by members of Oakwood Church as “gift to the community, which will allow the clinic to more efficiently care for the uninsured in our community,” Oakwood said in a statement.

VIM provides medical and dental care, free of charge, to uninsured adults in Comal and Guadalupe counties who have an income level less then 250 percent of the federal poverty level.

The clinic will help uninsured adults manage chronic health conditions, avoid the need for costly emergency care, and make physician visits and healthy living “become normal and expected,” Oakwood said.

The church has worked with VIM since 2008. VIM operates a satellite clinic at the Community Resource and Recreation Center of Canyon Lake (CRRC), 1917 FM 2673.
