The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will close its popular Overlook Park from Nov. 7 through Dec. 23.

The entire day-use-only park will close, including areas for pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

USACE Public Affairs Specialist Clay Church said heavy construction equipment will be moved into the area as enhanced security and parking improvements get underway.

Overlook Park offers spectacular views of Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe River and is favored by area residents who use the scenic service road atop the dam to exercise.

“We understand access to the area is important to our visiting public,” USACE said in a statement.

Lake Manager Javier Pérez Ortiz said safety is the Corps’ primary concern.

“We must provide a safe environment for our visitors and in order to ensure their safety we will be restricting access until the work is complete,” he said.

USACE said the public should consider using the Madrone or John Hancock trails instead to exercise and enjoy the lake’s scenery.
