Public Hearings, Votes on 2026 County Budget, Tax Rate, on Commissioners Court Agenda Thursday

Public hearings on County Judge Sherman Krause’s proposed 2026 Comal County budget, and a tax increase for 2025 to fund the 2026 budget are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at the historic courthouse, 100 Main Plaza, New Braunfels.

Commissioners will vote on each measure after the hearings.

Krause is proposing a $181,144,143 budget and a $0.305 tax rate per $100 of valuation.

The tax rate will effectively increase by 15.44% and result in approximately $25.79 more in taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home.

This tax rate will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s rate.

A public hearing and subsequent vote setting salaries for elected officials for 2026 also are on the agenda.

In other action, commissioners will:

  • Recognize the Pilot Club of Canyon Lake Inc. for 50 years of service in Comal County.
  • Accept a $1,958 donation from the Canyon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s Serve & Protect fundraiser, and a $1,958 donation from the chamber for Constable Pct. 4.
  • Discuss and consider approval of temporary branch early voting polling locations for the Nov. 4 Constitutional Amendment Election.
  • Discuss and consider approval of the maximum number of clerks for each polling location for the Nov. 4 constitutional Amendment Election.
