A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Canyon Lake from noon to 8 p.m. today, the U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio (NWS) said.

The special alert means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

The public is asked to avoid activities that could inadvertently cause a wildfire.

This morning’s cold front ushered in gusty winds and low relative humidity for portions of the I-35 corridor, prompting serious concerns for wildfires.

Winds are from the northwest at 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph. Relative humidity could fall to 15%.

Any wildfires that develop could be difficult to control and will spread rapidly, NWS said.
